the world has come to a standstill, at least for now.
All of my shows for 2020 have been postponed or canceled.
Since we are allowed to meet people again, I am inviting you individually to visit me in my studio in Woltersdorf, Germany in the suburbs of Berlin.
Please get in touch – you can use my contact page – and we sort out the details.
In the meantime, I hope everyone is doing good and I will keep you posted about future shows as soon as possible.
On the right is a full-page text I wrote for the german newspaper MOZ. It´s only in german for now.
I would love to invite you to my solo show “locus terribilis” at the okazi Gallery in Berlin Rummelsburg!
Opening > Friday > September 6th 2019 > 6 – 12 PM
Exhibition > September 6th 2019 – October 11th 2019
> okazi gallery
> Türrschmidtstraße 18, 10317 Berlin
> S-Bahnhof Ostkreuz, S-Bahnhof Nöldnerplatz, TRAM 21 Marktstraße
The exhibition takes place on the occasion of the Lange Nacht der Bilder (Long Night of Pictures) in Berlin Lichtenberg and the upcoming Berlin Art Week.
“The locus terribilis was the antithesis to the locus amoenus, a lovely place in literature and art from the Roman Empire to the sixteenth century. It was usually portrayed as a barren, dead area like a mountain, the desert, the wilderness in general. with gorges and rocks, desaturated, cold and dangerous, a place of lamentation, secularization or melancholy. Stephane Leonard’s exhibition at the okazi Gallery takes up some of these motifs in a mix of drawings and video art, combining them into one expansive installation.”
On view will be video works, as well as current drawings.
Stephane has won the “Brandenburgischer Kunstpreis” – the Art Prize of Brandenburg, Germany. The award ceremony and an exhibition and the publication of a catalog will take place at the Schloß Neuhardenberg on june 23rd 2019.
